AKI welcomes this year’s trainees from Kenya
On Friday, the 6th of May 2022, 39 trainees from Bukura Agricultutral College (BAC) in western Kenia arrived in Frankfurt am Main to begin their six-month traineeship in southern Germany.
The Project manager Teklezghi Teklebrhan received the trainees at Frankfurt am Main airport and accompanied them by bus to DEULA Baden-Württemberg GmbH in Kirchheim/Teck for a three-day introductory seminar led by AKI team members Teklezghi Teklebrhan and Anastasiia Fomina.
On their first day the trainees were officially welcomed by Falk Kullen, Managing Director of AKI and Siegfried Schwab, Deputy Chairman of the AKI Board. From GIZ side, Bärbel Sagi and Lucas Zahl joined the official welcoming digitally and welcomed the trainees on behalf of the Green Innovation Centres in the Agro-Food Sector (GIAE). After the official welcome, AKI's Deputy Chairman Siegfried Schwab gave the trainees a very valuable safety briefing on using various technical agricultural work equipment.
During the following days of introductory seminars, the students learned more about the traineeship program, important documents related to the traineeship, report writing, the differences in the German and Kenyan mentality and life in Germany in general. Finally, on the 8th of May 2022 AKI members handed over the trainees to the host families who came from different regions of Southern Germany.
We would especially like to thank the DEULA team, which once again made a significant contribution to the success of the introductory event for our trainees not only by providing a great organization of accommodation and catering but also a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.
Two days later, an introductory seminar for the host families was held digitally where the most important documents for the traineeship were discussed and all open questions were clarified together with the managing director Falk Kullen and AKI-Project management Anastasiia Fomina and Teklezghi Teklebrhan.
The traineeship program is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as part of the global project "Green Innovation Centres in the Agro-Food Sector (GIAE)". The aim of the project is to increase the income of smallholder farms, enhance employment and the regional supply of food in the rural target regions of Africa through innovations in the agricultural and food sector. Within this framework, AgrarKontakte International (AKI) e.V. has been granted to implement the traineeship program with Kenya since 2019.
